Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Plaxx ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses and protects information when you use the Plaxx mobile application and our website at plaxx.app. By using Plaxx you agree to the practices described here.
1. Who we are
Plaxx is a mobile app that provides license plate lookup and VIN decoder services across 57 countries. The service is operated by the Plaxx team. To contact us, write to contact@plaxx.app.
2. Data we collect
We collect the minimum data needed to operate the service:
- Anonymous installation ID: a random UUID generated on your device to identify your credits balance. It is not linked to your name, email, phone or any personal identifier.
- License plates you look up: country, plate number and the timestamp of the lookup, used to deliver the report you requested and to provide your history.
- Purchase transactions: when you buy a pack of lookups, we store the transaction identifier from Apple App Store or Google Play to credit your account. Payment information itself is processed by Apple/Google, not by us.
- Technical logs: minimal server logs with IP address (truncated), timestamp and request status, kept for up to 30 days for security and debugging.
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, location, contacts, photos, files or any other personal data.
3. Vehicle data and owner information
Plaxx is built privacy-first. Although third-party databases in some countries may return information about vehicle owners (name, address, phone), we filter and remove this data before storing the result in our cache. The app never shows owner identification.
4. How we use your data
- Deliver vehicle reports for the plates you query.
- Keep track of your credits balance and lookup history.
- Detect abuse and protect the service from fraud.
- Improve the product (aggregate, anonymous statistics only).
We do not sell or share your data with advertisers or data brokers.
5. Data retention
- Vehicle reports are cached on our servers for up to 90 days to avoid charging you twice for the same plate.
- Your local history on the device is kept until you clear it from Settings.
- Anonymous installation IDs are kept while you have a non-zero credit balance.
- Server logs are deleted after 30 days.
6. Third-party services
To provide the service we rely on the following processors:
- CarsXE (USA) — vehicle data provider. They receive the plate and country to return vehicle details.
- RevenueCat (USA) — handles in-app purchase verification.
- Apple App Store / Google Play — process payments and deliver the app.
- Hetzner (Germany) — hosts our servers in the European Union.
7. Your rights under GDPR
If you live in the European Union, the United Kingdom, Switzerland or another country with similar privacy laws, you have the right to:
- Request access to the data we hold about your anonymous installation ID.
- Request deletion of all data associated with your installation. You can do this directly from the app: Settings → Reset settings.
- Object to processing or request portability of your data.
- File a complaint with your local data protection authority.

8. Children
Plaxx is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
9. Security
All communications between the app and our servers use HTTPS (TLS 1.2+). Data at rest is encrypted at the disk level on our servers. Access to production systems is limited to authorised personnel.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy occasionally. We will post the new version here and update the "Last updated" date. Significant changes will be announced in the app.
